I'm using Microsoft Excel for Mac, version 16.21 (latest at this time on fast insider) on Mojave 10.14.1 OS. I have a decently put together Macbook Pro with these specs: 2.6Ghz Intel Core i7 16GM 1600 Mhz DDR3 Memory 1TB SSD with 937G available Excel lags incredibly during copy/paste, enter, general moving from cells, dragging, and more. I have searched and searched for potential fixes and implemented all. I use excel most of my day and this makes me VERY unproductive. I'm starting to believe that there will not be a resolution from Microsoft because this issue has been widespread for quite some time. It is to the point where I am going to purchase a PC just to run excel. I'm searching for any potential fixes before I do this.

Thank you Moved from Office/Excel/Mac/Office 365 for business. Have you gone to preferences — Calculations and turned on use Multithreading? If not Excel uses just one core. Increasing the number of cores used does speed up calculations. However, using everyone may affect the operation of the system.
Would leave 2 cores are not chosen to allow the system to function correctly. Hi Phillip, I really appreciate your help, thanks for the reply. Yes, multi-threading has been enabled. Core setting was 8. I tried several different core settings such as 6 & 4, but I'm still getting that lag - hesitation during copy/paste - enter - and general movement. I downloaded Parallels for Mac and installed excel for Windows in there for my mac and of course it works like a charm. I hate to spend all that money though just to get a functional excel, but enhanced productivity will be worth it.
Thanks again for the feedback. Hi Richard, Your specs are better than mine, and I have no problems at all with copy/paste or general moving around workbooks.

Do you use any 'helper' apps that might be intercepting your mouse and keyboard activity? Any anti-virus apps? You might try booting to Safe Mode by holding the SHIFT key down as your Mac boots up from a restart or cold boot. It takes a long time to boot that way, but doing so should prevent 3rd party app interference. Is Excel snappy in Safe Mode? You can do a regular restart after testing in Safe Mode.
